Demolition of apartment building on eroding Pacifica cliff begins
Three bulldozers descended on an apartment building that was sitting on an eroding cliffside in Pacifica Monday morning, demolishing the structure that for years had threatened to plummet to the sandy beaches below. By the end of the week, construction crews expected the 20-unit building on 310 Esplanade Ave. to be nothing more than a distant memory on the street that had suffered from bluff erosion caused by heavy storms. “Recent storms and ongoing deteriorating conditions on the adjacent bluffs present a clear danger to the public,” said Lorie Tinfow, the Pacifica city manager and director of emergency management. The demolition and clean-up is expected to take until the end of the week, said Scott Helf, a project manager with SV Demolition Inc., the San Jose company the city is paying $218,650 to raze the building.
