SF homeless happy to accept free Cleveland Cavaliers T-shirts
Six hundred homeless people were so glad to get a free shirt that none of them cared what the shirts said on them.
The A’s lost a lot of games and finished in last place, wiping out the market for the overly optimistic shirts.
“These shirts are all about hope,” said St. Anthony’s Executive Director Barry Stenger, watching his clients snap them up.
The line for the shirts stretched out the front door, down Golden Gate Avenue and around the corner onto Leavenworth Street.
Bay Area sports impresario Andy Dolich sweet-talked the TBT people into handing over the unsold shirts.
“Fresh, clean clothes, that’s always going to bring a little enjoyment,” he said.
Most people in line were asking for shirts one or two sizes bigger than they were, because a shirt for sleeping is sized differently than a shirt for waking.
Last to go were the Cleveland Cavaliers T-shirts, which had less to do with any hard feelings about their victory last year over the Golden State Warriors for the NBA championship than it had to do with the thinness of the fabric.
