Woman treated for lead exposure after South Bay plant explosion
A woman was being treated for exposure to lead oxide and lead azide after employees at a South Bay plant reported an explosion, authorities said.
Paramedics airlifted the woman to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where she underwent a second round of decontamination, following an initial one at the plant, before she was allowed to enter the emergency room, said Capt. Mitch Matlow of the San Jose Fire Department.
Employees at Pacific Scientific Energetic Materials Company in the city of Hollister reported the explosion at 9:31 a.m., according to a dispatcher.
