Breezy, rainy weekend in store for Bay Area
San Francisco residents and tourists heading to the Christmas tree lighting in Union Square Friday night can rest assured that they won’t get drenched by an incoming rainstorm.
The rain Saturday will spread from San Francisco to the East and South Bay by mid-morning, said Bob Benjamin, a forecaster with the National Weather Service.
Bay Area residents headed to Sierra ski resorts for the holiday weekend can expect three to eight inches of snow on Saturday that should provide enough of a dusting for ample chances to ski and snowboard on the slopes.
Holiday commuters leaving for the Lake Tahoe area Friday should be prepared for winter driving conditions and have chains with them, said Peter Mann, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol division of Truckee.
“Adding snow as a variable into traffic can always make conditions more treacherous,” he said.
