Shaftsbury lawmaker wins afterschool award
STOWE, Vt. (AP) — After-school and summer youth program administrators from around Vermont have awarded a lawmaker from Shaftsbury by designating her as an "afterschool hero."
Democratic Rep. Alice Miller got the distinction at the recent Vermont Afterschool Conference, with the group commending her understanding that much learning happens outside the school day.
Miller, a member of the House Education Committee, says afterschool and summer youth programs keep young people safe, while making it possible for families to go to work with peace of mind.
