LA County sheriff's sergeant shot, wounded in Lancaster
LANCASTER, Calif. (AP) — A Los Angeles County sheriff's sergeant answering a burglary call has been shot and wounded in Lancaster and authorities are hunting the gunman.
Deputy Guillermina Saldana says the sergeant was shot around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday while answering a report of a burglary in progress on West Avenue J-7 in the city north of Los Angeles.
The sergeant is hospitalized but there's no word on his condition.
Nearby Antelope Valley College urged students to shelter in place as deputies searched for the attacker.
Several nearby elementary and high schools were placed on lockdown.
