Tennessee to have 9 high school football classes in 2017
HERMITAGE, Tenn. (AP) — High school football in Tennessee will have nine separate classifications starting in 2017.
The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association's Board of Control voted Wednesday to have three classes of Division II football, up from two under the previous format. Those three classifications will be Class A (schools with enrollments of 265 or less), Class AA (266-530) and Class AAA (531 or above).
Division I football will have six separate classifications that are evenly split.
These new classifications take effect in the 2017-18 school year and will run through 2020-21.
