High lead levels in water found at 11 more Chicago schools
CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago Public Schools says high levels of lead in water have been found at 11 more Chicago elementary schools.
The Chicago Tribune (http://trib.in/1PiRMuo ) reports the district expanded its lead testing to all its schools after a pilot effort that started in April had found high lead levels in the water at Tanner Elementary School.
"Given heightened awareness nationally about lead exposure for children and to provide parents with timely information, Chicago Public Schools is taking proactive steps to ensure that our children's drinking water is safe across all schools by testing every school in the district," district spokesman Michael Passman said in a statement.
