Stock market today: Global shares mostly decline after Nasdaq ticks to a record high
Global shares have retreated even after most U.S. stock indexes finished higher, especially technology issues like Nvidia. Benchmarks fell in both Asia and Europe. Oil prices also were lower, while U.S. futures were little changed. Nvidia, one of Wall Street's most influential companies, reports quarterly results later this week. Investors are focused on signs about the health of Chinese economy. Hopes are growing that the U.S. Federal Reserve will be able to cut interest rates this year as inflation hopefully cools. On Monday, the S&P 500 rose 0.1% and pulled within 0.02 of its record set last week. The Nasdaq composite gained 0.7% and the Dow industrials slipped 0.5%.
