Google.org awards $500,000 each to 6 nonprofits to boost Bay Area
Jacquelline Fuller, managing director of Google.org, the tech giant’s philanthropic arm, said that question is behind the Google Impact Challenge grants, which provide cash and tech support to nonprofits with transformational projects.
Google announced the prize winners Wednesday night with a twist:
The winners are: 826 Valencia, which is building a creative writing center for kids in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood; Bayview/Hunters Point Community Legal, which provides affordable legal assistance; City Year, which supports at-risk East San Jose students; the Hidden Genius Project, which trains young black males in technology, entrepreneurship and leadership; Kiva, which makes no-fee, no-interest loans to Oakland small businesses; and the Reset Foundation, which is creating alternatives to incarceration for young adults.
