A feast of sights, tastes at the Embarcadero
A vintage lemon- and tangerine-colored streetcar makes its way along the tracks on the Embarcadero, a waterfront promenade featuring expansive vistas and lined with manicured palm trees, office buildings and restaurants.
Small dining spots here include Delica, which serves up Japanese fare deli style, and Il Cane Rosso, a breakfast and lunch spot that cooks up organic two-egg, olive oil-fried sandwiches made with pancetta, sweet onions and aged provolone in the morning and features Mary’s organic chicken, herb-rubbed and cooked rotisserie-style, later in the day.
On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, go outside to the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market to pick up heirloom squash, pomegranates and other seasonal produce, along with honey, almonds and a cornucopia of delicious eats from food vendors and local restaurants.
A California Certified Farmers Market, it’s operated by the Center for Urban Education About Sustainable Agriculture, a nonprofit organization.
Across the street at Embarcadero Center, you can take the self-guided art tour to see contemporary public-art sculptures located throughout this shopping, dining and office complex.
