Blue Jays pummel Aaron Brooks again in win over A’s
The rookie, who pitched so well in his first two outings with Oakland, returned to the scene of his first big-league start and — for the second time — was rocked in the A’s 10-3 loss to the red-hot Blue Jays.
Brooks gave up eight runs in 12/3 innings Wednesday at the former SkyDome.
The Blue Jays, who moved into the lead in the AL East, have scored a major-league-high 611 runs, 77 more than the second-highest team, the Yankees.
Chris Colabello mashed a three run homer off Brooks in the first inning, Justin Smoak a three-run shot off reliever Felix Doubront in Toronto’s seven-run second inning.
Former A’s All-Star third baseman Josh Donaldson, now an MVP candidate with Toronto, added a two-run single that inning.
Fuld also made a terrific diving catch on a liner down the line by Kevin Pillar in the fifth.
Danny Valencia hit his third homer in six games with the A’s, a solo shot in the second off R.A. Dickey, and Mark Canha provided a double that inning that moved Billy Butler from first to third.
Great at-bats, said Melvin, who praised the rookie’s work ethic in staying ready every day at three positions despite limited playing time.
