Band kicked out of park says SF musicians need support: 'This is why SF is losing its artists'
For some weeks now, Scholz has rolled his 500-pound piano onto a blacktop at the Panhandle Park, pitched a sign reading "St. Jimmy Joe" — his stage name — and played to the runners, picnickers, and other passersby out getting a bit of fresh air during the city's shelter-in-place order. In more recent weeks, he's asked some friends to come along too; this particular Friday, he's joined by trumpeter Mike Olmos and saxophonist Danny Brown.
