High-level mediation talks for South Sudan have been launched in Kenya with African presidents calling for an end to a conflict that has crippled South Sudan’s economy for years. A Milwaukee woman who argued she was legally allowed to kill a man because was sexually trafficking her has pleaded guilty to homicide. Prosecutors allege Chrystul Kizer shot Randall Volar at his Kenosha home in 2018 when she was 17. She faced multiple charges, including first-degree intentional homicide. The average rate on a 30-year mortgage fell for the first time in four weeks, a slight relief for home shoppers already facing the challenges of rising housing prices and a shortage of homes for sale. The rate fell to 7.09% from 7.22% last week, mortgage buyer Freddie Mac said Thursday. A year ago, the rate averaged 6.35%. The modest pullback followed a five-week string of increases that pushed the average rate to its highest level since November 30. A first ship carrying humanitarian aid for Gaza was on its way Thursday to a floating platform built by the U.S. military. The plan is for cargo to be transferred at the pier to smaller U.S. boats that will deliver it to shore. India says Canada has informed it about the arrest of three Indian men who have been charged with the murder of a Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia last year, but insists no relevant information or evidence about Delhi's involvement has yet been shared by Canada.
