A dark story turned to music
The Italian writer Italo Calvino has been a recurrent source of inspiration for composers (including Christopher Cerrone, whose operatic treatment of “Invisible Cities” made a splash at its 2014 premiere). The latest to draw material from Calvino’s writings is the Australian composer Melody Eötvös, whose “House of the Beehives” is based on a surprisingly sinister tale of secrets. [...] on the program is a world premiere by David Coll, and chamber works by Dusan Bogdanovic, Sebastian Currier and Ravel.
