NASA’s 1st asteroid spacecraft poised for liftoff
NASA’s first asteroid-sampling spacecraft lifted off Thursday evening as crowds gathered to witness the start of its seven-year quest. The robotic probe will orbit the ancient asteroid, vacuum up some gravel, then haul the sample back to Earth. NASA has gone after comet dust and solar wind particles before, but never anything from an asteroid.
