Following the reunions of their downward-gazing peers My Bloody Valentine, Ride and Slowdive, the ’90s British dream-pop band Lush is visiting the Bay Area for the first time in some two decades. On the back of its scheduled appearance at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, Lush brings a cache of lovely, ethereal songs — “Sweetness and Light,” “Desire Lines” — that defined an era. Front woman Miki Berenyi says getting back in the hazy groove was an interesting experience.

The Dutch quintet Calefax has come up something new: a mixed ensemble of reed instruments that creates new sonorities and textures in familiar music. The lineup consists of oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bass clarinet and bassoon. In other words, an innovative wrinkle on the traditional woodwind quintet. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of this weekend’s program is the chance to hear “Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks” — Richard Strauss’ buoyant and vibrantly colored orchestral tone poem — played by no more than five instruments.

Few would have suspected, when André Previn’s operatic version of Tennessee Williams’ classic stage drama “A Streetcar Named Desire” had its world premiere at the San Francisco Opera in 1998, that this piece would claim a solid place in the repertoire. Circus Center presents “Take Me Away,” an intimate show that blends cabaret performance with the acrobatics and clowning of the circus. A working training facility, Circus Center — which has its roots as the teaching arm of the Pickle Family Circus — transforms into an unusual venue with a full bar where the audience is never more than 50 feet away from the action onstage. Doors open a half hour before “Take Me Away” for a pre-show that includes a set by the Roger Glenn Trio, which also provides the musical accompaniment for the main event.

Breaking from the guitar-and-drums restraints of his regular gig, Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys cuts loose with his side project, the Arcs. An elderly woman was pulled from the water off Pier 35 near Fisherman’s Wharf Monday morning by rescue divers, who performed CPR on a dock before rushing her to a hospital, officials and witnesses said. The San Francisco Fire Department received calls about the incident at 10:26 a.m. and dispatched members of its dive team to the area between Pier 35 and Pier 39, officials said. Divers pulled the woman from the water about 11 a.m., and witnesses said the rescuers performed CPR on her on the dock.
