Panthers sign former 49ers safety Eric Reid
Eric Reid is back in the NFL.
Four months after filing a collusion grievance against the league, the former 49ers safety signed a one-year contract with the Panthers today.
Despite a strong resume, Reid, 26, had been on the free-agent market for more than six months and he believed his extended unemployment was tied to his decision to kneel during the national anthem for the previous two seasons to draw attention to racial inequality issues in America.
In 2016, Reid became the first teammate to kneel during the anthem with then-49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who hasn’t been signed since he last played in the 2016 season. Kaepernick has also filed a collusion grievance against the NFL.
