Hazing investigation leads to prep coach's resignation
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A high school football coach has resigned from a Tennessee school district after being told in a letter of reprimand that he couldn't coach for the next three years.
Derek Witt sent his letter of resignation Aug. 1, less than a week after getting the letter of reprimand from Knox County schools superintendent Bob Thomas.
The Knoxville News-Sentinel first reported Witt's resignation.
Witt had been teaching and coaching at Carter High School in Strawberry Plains, but he was placed on administrative leave with pay in April as officials investigated a parent's complaints that senior football players were periodically hazing freshman players in the locker room.
