A’s acquire former Giants right-hander Cory Gearrin from Rangers
Just when you thought the A’s bullpen was filled to the brim — particularly with right-handers — Oakland has added another right-handed reliever. On Friday, the A’s acquired former Giant Cory Gearrin from Texas for two minor-league pitchers.
The Giants traded Gearrin to the Rangers on July 8. He had a 4.20 ERA in 30 innings with San Francisco this season. With Texas, Gearrin had a 2.53 ERA in 211/3 innings. He allowed only 13 hits in his Texas stint.
Gearrin, 32, began his big-league career with Atlanta in 2011. He joins a bullpen that has been bolstered by trades for right-handers Jeurys Familia, Shawn Kelley and Fernando Rodney.
