Voters in school massacre's district to choose board

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Voters in the Florida county where February's massacre happened are voting for new school board members as candidates include the parents of two victims.

Ryan Petty and Lori Alhadeff are running Tuesday for seats on the Broward County school board, six months after their daughters and 15 others died in the Feb. 14 attack at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Both are running on platforms for improving school safety, saying the district did not make it a priority before the shooting.

Petty's opponent for a countywide seat, incumbent Donna Korn, says that is not true. Alhadeff is running for an open seat in the district that includes Stoneman Douglas.
