A’s Sean Manaea to see top orthopedist; Daniel Mengden works out of bullpen
HOUSTON — Dr. Neal ElAttrache is known as one of the top second-opinion orthopedists in professional sports, so it’s probably not a good sign that Sean Manaea will see ElAttrache in Los Angeles on Tuesday after getting an MRI exam in the Bay Area on Monday.
Manager Bob Melvin said the team will provide more information after that visit.
Manaea, the A’s top starter most of the season, felt discomfort in his left shoulder while playing catch before Oakland’s game at Minnesota on Sunday. ElAttrache gave a second opinion for A’s prospect A.J. Puk this year and performed Puk’s Tommy John surgery; ElAttrache also performed Jarrod Parker’s final elbow procedure after repeat Tommy Johns.
