East Contra Costa BART service returns to normal
A malfunctioning track switch that caused delays on the Antioch BART extension throughout Monday morning has been replaced and service is back to normal.
The slowdown going toward San Francisco was caused by a track switch malfunction between the Pittsburg/Bay Point transfer platform and Pittsburg Center Station that forced BART to use only a single track and run only every other train toward San Francisco, said Jim Allison, a BART spokesman.
Commuters faced delays of up to 30 minutes. The problem started at about 5 a.m. Regular service was restored at 11 a.m.
The problem was on the system’s newest extension, a 10-mile stretch that opened May 25 and uses diesel-powered trains.
