North Berkeley BART station reopens after man was trapped under train
BART service has resumed at the North Berkeley station after an incident where a train hit a man who either fell into or jumped into its path.
The incident occurred at around 11:45, closing the station and causing delays along the Richmond line.
“Shortly before noon we had reports of a male individual that had entered the trackway and was stuck underneath the train,” Cheryl Stalter of BART’s communication office said in a statement just after 1 p.m. “The Berkeley Fire Department responded and rescued the patron.”
Stalter did not identify the man involved, but said “he is conscious and alert and as of right now, no reports of any major sustained injury.
