Sen. Sanders speaks in favor of nurse's union
BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Independent U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders is encouraging the University of Vermont Medical Center to give nurses the wage increases union leaders are requesting.
UVM Medical Center and the union plan to continue negotiations Friday. If no deal is reached the nurses are scheduled to strike July 12 and 13.
UVM Medical Center President Eileen Whalen said the hospital remains hopeful they will be able to reach a solution before the scheduled strike.
Deb Snell, a nurse and president of the American Federation of Teachers Vermont, said it did not believe that the two sides would reach a solution Friday night.
