Providence unveils large building energy efficiency program
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza has unveiled a voluntary energy savings program aimed at helping the city meet its climate goals through energy efficiency.
Elorza said Monday that the program — dubbed "RePowerPVD" — challenges the owners of large buildings to commit to a 20 percent reduction in energy by 2025 measured against a baseline taken in 2015.
Elorza said climate change is a real threat to cities like Providence.
He said the program targets buildings that are the largest contributors of greenhouse gas emissions to the city and will help property owners save energy, reduce costs and improve their marketability.
