Judge sets $200K bond for Gary mom in children's fire deaths
GARY, Ind. (AP) — A judge has set a $200,000 bond for a northwestern Indiana mother who faces neglect charges after her two young children died in an apartment building fire.
Thirty-three-year-old Kristen Gober of Gary had been jailed without bond before appearing in a Lake County court Wednesday on two counts of child neglect causing death and other charges.
Gober is accused of leaving the children alone for several hours before the blaze started Sunday in their apartment. Her 2-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son died in the fire. Their 6-year-old brother escaped. He told police he and his younger brother were playing with the kitchen stove when a blanket caught fire.
