Utah man acquitted of murder gets probation on other charges
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A 43-year-old Utah man who was acquitted of murder and robbery charges in the 2015 death of man run over by trailer during a dispute has been placed on probation for obstruction of justice and trespassing.
The Deseret News reported Monday Jay Richard Urry of Taylorsville was ordered last week to complete three years of probation and 100 hours of community service. He was given credit for the 25 months he'd spent in jail since his arrest.
Urry was one of three people charged with murder in the 2015 dispute that took the life of Eric Carter, 49.
Carter reported Urry and others were trying to steal his vehicle. But Urry said one of the accomplices claimed it was his.
