Senate confirms Doughty to be federal judge in Louisiana
MONROE, La. (AP) — The U.S. Senate has confirmed a state court judge, Terry Doughty, to serve as a federal judge in Louisiana.
The Senate voted unanimously Tuesday to confirm Doughty as a district court judge for the Western District of Louisiana. President Donald Trump nominated him for the seat in August.
U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy, a Louisiana Republican, said in a statement Tuesday that Doughty is "highly qualified" and was confirmed with "strong bipartisan support."
Doughty is a state judge for the 5th Judicial District Court, which covers West Carroll, Richland and Franklin parishes. He had a private law practice in Rayville before his election as a state judge in July 2008. He was re-elected to the court in 2015.
