Rhode Island State Police working to improve diversity
SCITUATE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island State Police are launching an effort to increase gender and racial diversity within the department's 2018 recruiting class.
The Westerly Sun reports (http://bit.ly/2xLmlcG ) state police have devised a four-point plan. Under the strategy, the department will invite potential recruits to orientation sessions, hold panel discussions led by female troopers, organize a Recruit Mentorship Program and improve screening and recruitment methods.
Rhode Island State Police superintendent Col. Ann Assumpico says the department is committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce that's qualified.
