Extreme heat forces flight cancellations in southwestern US
LAS VEGAS — Dozens of flights were delayed and canceled out of Phoenix Sky Harbor airport on Tuesday as the city — and much of the region — withered under another day of excessively hot temperatures.
National Weather Service meteorologist Kate Guillet said temperatures are expected to remain hot through the rest of the week — though Tuesday would probably be the peak day for heat.
American Airlines said seven flights had been delayed out of Phoenix due to the heat and 43 regional flights had been canceled Tuesday.
The airline said the Bombardier CRJ regional aircraft can operate under a maximum temperature of 118 degrees.
