Avalanche mitigation begins along part of Parks Highway
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) — Drivers on Parks Highway can expect delays as avalanche mitigation begins in the area of two recent snow slides.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports (http://bit.ly/1XpOxdl) the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities was set to start work at Panorama Mountain on Sunday between mile markers 216 and 220.
Delays up to 45 minutes are expected.
Transportation officials are advising people not to travel on the highway due to dangerous driving conditions and thick ice on the road.
