NEW YORK (AP) — Panera Bread says it is buying bakery chain Au Bon Pain to boost its presence in airports, hospitals and colleges. The deal, announced Wednesday, brings the two chains together again. They were part of the same came company in the 1990s, until Au Bon Pain was sold in 1999 to a private equity firm and Panera became the focus. Panera did not say how much it will pay for Boston-based Au Bon Pain, which operates more than 300 locations. St. Louis-based Panera has more than 2,000 restaurants. Читать дальше...

NEW YORK (AP) — MGM is reporting third-quarter net income of $149.1 million, its first quarterly financial report since a deadly mass shooting at its Mandalay Bay property in early October. The shooting did not have an impact on the current results. But, cancellations and marketing suspensions are expected to weigh down fourth-quarter results. FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Voters in Tusayan rejected a ballot measure Tuesday that would have led to big changes for the gateway town to Grand Canyon National Park. The all mail-in election asked residents to decide whether they wanted buildings heights up to 65 feet (20 meters). Of the 131 people who cast ballots, 60 supported the measure, while 71 opposed it. LONDON (AP) — Celebrity chef Antonio Carluccio, who helped popularize inexpensive Italian fare as the founder of an eponymous restaurant chain and a prolific cookbook writer, has died. He was 80. His death was announced on Carluccio's website, by the restaurant business on Twitter and by his agent on Wednesday. The cause was not immediately revealed. Carluccio, who was born and raised in Italy, had restaurants in Britain, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates bearing his name. He also appeared in several television shows and wrote 22 cookbooks. DUNDALK, Md. (AP) — Amazon has announced plans to build a Baltimore-area distribution center that will create 1,500 full-time jobs. In a news release Wednesday, the online retailer said the facility will be located in Baltimore County, at the site of a former Sparrows Point steel mill. It is expected to open in 2019. The Baltimore Sun reports that the Baltimore County Council unanimously voted last month in favor of a $2.2 million incentive package to lure Amazon to the industrial development being created at Tradepoint Atlantic. CFO John Stephens said Wednesday that discussions with the Justice Department, which must approve the deal, are "active." Wall Street analysts had widely expected the deal to go through. PLAINFIELD, Ind. (AP) — Amazon is facing a $28,000 state fine over safety violations from when a worker at a suburban Indianapolis warehouse was killed when a forklift fell on him. The Indiana Department of Labor's order says Amazon didn't provide adequate training and safety procedures weren't followed before the Sept. 24 accident at the company's Plainfield distribution center. NEW YORK (AP) — The Chinese internet company Tencent has acquired a 12 percent stake in Snap, with the social media company struggling to boost user growth. Tencent runs the WeChat messaging app, as well as online payment platforms and games. Earlier this year, it bought a 5 percent stake in Tesla Inc. ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's office says the Turkish leader has met with Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk in Ankara. The office did not immediately provide details on Wednesday's meeting at Erdogan's palace complex. The meeting, however, comes days after a consortium of five Turkish businesses, including mobile phone operator Turkcell, launched a joint venture to design and produce a Turkish-made car. The joint venture was launched under Erdogan's urging.
