'Huckster evangelist' Trump has 'spit in the face' of Christians: Rev. Al Sharpton
The Rev. Al Sharpton told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that he took personal offense to former President Donald Trump hawking $60 Bibles that come stamped with his personal endorsement.
In breaking down Trump's newest money-making venture, which drew widespread ridicule when it was unveiled earlier this week, Sharpton argued that the entire venture was blasphemous to the principles espoused in Christian teachings.
"People ought to realize how offensive this is to those of us who really believe in the Bible," said Sharpton. "He's doing this during Holy Week! I mean, tomorrow is good Friday. Sunday is Easter. Of all of the times you want to hustle using the Bible, why would you do it during Holy Week, which is really a spit in the face of people who really believe in the Bible from a Christian point of view."
Sharpton went on to say that ministers who pushed their congregants to buy the "Trump Bible" should "be defrocked" for cheapening such a sacred text.

He also recounted a story from his youth that taught him some lessons about people like the former president.
"When I was growing up, I was licensed in the Pentecostal Church, the largest Black Pentecostal Church at the time," he said. "But every once in a while a huckster evangelist would come through and they would sell blessed oils and blessed cloth. Let's remember, this man has sold pieces of his garments that he went to court with, he has sold sneakers now, gold sneakers with red bottoms, now Bibles. I mean, if he's not like the old hustlers... then I don't know what is."
Sharpton finished by blasting American evangelicals who wouldn't even say Trump was going a "step too far" by hawking $60 Bibles during Holy Week.
