Turnbull reportedly poised to resign as soon as next week
There are reports former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull will resign from parliament as soon as next week. News Corp understands Mr Turnbull will step down and not return to parliament when it resumes next month, triggering a by-election in his Sydney seat of Wentworth and periling the Coalition's one-seat majority in the House of Representatives. Senior Liberal Party leaders, however, claim there would not be a by-election, while there has been speculation Tony Abbott's sister Christine Forster may contest the electorate. The new Prime Minister Scott Morrison is expected to delay going to the polls and hold a so-called 'mini-budget' in December. Image: Sean Davey / News Corp Australia
