QLD facing major shortage of STEM qualified teachers
Queensland is facing a major shortage of science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) trained teachers, with up to one-third of teachers in STEM roles unqualified for the positions. The QLD Teachers Union says shortages in the field are so severe that teachers from other fields are being asked to familiarise themselves with subjects they haven't studied. The state government is currently offering STEM professionals $25,000 scholarships to retrain in education to help reduce the shortage.
