Melbourne hit-and-run driver dodges jail time
A Melbourne woman has avoided jail time over a hit-and-run which left a 13-year-old cyclist in the city's north fighting for life. Thi Hang Nguyen, 42, was driving a friend's car in Coburg when she hit a girl who was cycling on the wrong side of the road and not wearing a helmet. The girl was left with life-threatening injuries but survived. Ms Nguyen told police she didn't stop because she was scared because she couldn't speak English and thought the teen was okay. She will lose her license for four years and will have to complete 150 hours of community service.
