Boy, Sole Survivor of Plane Crash, Evacuated From Mountain in Indonesia’s Papua
A boy, who was a sole survivor of a plane crash in Indonesia’s Papua province that killed eight people, was evacuated from Menuk Mountain on Sunday, August 12. “The survivor is a 12-year-old child named Jumaidi,” police spokesman Ahmad Mustofa Kamal told BBC News Indonesia. Seven passengers and two pilots were on board the Dimonim Air charter flight from Tanahmerah to Oksibil on Saturday afternoon, August 11, at around 3 pm. The air traffic controllers lost contact with the plane shortly before it was expected to land. It took the rescue team, which includes police, military and National Search and Rescue Agency personnel, two hours walking from a nearby village to reach the plane wreckage on August 12. The injured boy survivor was first taken to the Oksibil General Hospital but was later transferred to Bhayangkara Hospital in Jayapura, the provincial capital, Mustofa said.
