President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, April 6, congratulated Julius Maada Bio on his victory as the new president of Sierra Leone after the presidential election run-off on March 31.
President Buhari, in a Twitter post, commended the people of Sierra Leone on the successful conduct of the presidential election run-off as well as the parliamentary and local council elections held on March 7, 2018.
He also expressed his readiness to work with President Bio for the growth, prosperity and stability of their nations, and West Africa.

NAIJ.com previously reported that the opposition party’s candidate, Rtd Brig Julius Madaa Bio of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) was declared the winner of the March 31 Sierra Leone presidential run-off election.
According to the result announced by the Sierra Leone’s National Electoral Commission (NEC) on Wednesday, April 4, in Freetown, Bio received 1,319,406 votes representing 51.81 per cent of the total valid votes cast, 2,546,577, to defeat the candidate of the ruling party.
According to the result, Kamara Wilson of the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) polled 1,227,171 votes, representing 48.19 per cent of the valid votes cast.
Meanwhile, Nigeria's former president, Goodluck Jonathan, was in Sierra Leone during the polls to observe the country’s presidential run-off.
Ikechukwu Eze, the spokesman to the former president, stated that Jonathan led the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA) Election Observation Mission to monitor the Sierra Leone's polls.
The mission in its interim report presented to the media on March 9 added that the elections were “conducted substantially in line with sub-regional, continental and international standards"
