Cris Cyborg shown crying during brutal weight cut before UFC debut
Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino cut down to 140 pounds for her UFC debut in May, and now new behind-the-scenes footage is going to show just how hellish the process was.
Justino, 31, posted a trailer Wednesday to an upcoming documentary that chronicles her road to UFC 198. Within the trailer is dramatic footage that shows "Cyborg" brought to tears by her grueling cut down to the 140-pound catchweight required of her fight against Leslie Smith, which Justino ultimately won via TKO in 81 seconds. Video of the trailer can be seen above.
Justino (16-1, 1 NC) has long been considered one of the top pound-for-pound women in the sport, capturing titles in both the Strikeforce and Invicta FC featherweight division. However the issue of her weight prevented her for years from attaining a blockbuster fight in the UFC against Ronda Rousey.
But that changed in 2016 when the UFC finally allowed "Cyborg" to fight under its umbrella, albeit at a 140-pound catchweight.
The experiment was a success, and now "Cyborg" will once again cut down to 140 pounds on Sept. 24 when she headlines UFC Fight Night 95 opposite promotional newcomer Lina Lansberg.
