Azerbaijan tries to take a step back again, Nalbandian says
Edward Nalbandian said this in Warsaw on July 9 during a briefing with Armenian journalists.
He said that during meetings with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and French President Francois Hollande in Warsaw, Armenian President discussed the agreements that have been reached in Vienna and reaffirmed in St. Petersburg.
“If implemented, they will create favorable conditions for advancing the peace process. We are talking about the creation of an investigation mechanism. Although Azerbaijan pretends it does not know about it, the co-chair countries have submitted detailed proposals. Armenia responded and gave a generally positive opinion regarding the establishment of this mechanism. This initiative was being discussed for years. Back in 2011 and 2012, Russian, Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents made public statements after summits in Sochi which indicated the necessity of establishment of this mechanism, but Azerbaijan was taking a step back each time. This time, too, after Vienna and St. Petersburg, Azerbaijan is trying to back away from that agreement, pretending that such an agreement has not been reached at all. Although the Co-Chair countries clearly said that the Presidents agreed to establish such a mechanism in their statements published as a result of Vienna summit”, said Nalbandian.
The Minister informed that he had met with Co-chairs in Warsaw.
“We believe that we will continue discussions on these agreements and see how it can be implemented. In any case, the co-chair countries, OSCE Chairman-in-Office - Foreign Minister of Germany are determined enough. It is impossible to agree on a subject after a meeting and then one of the sides to back away from it”, said Edward Nalbandian.
