Azerbaijani leadership does not have political will, Armenian President says
The President said this in Warsaw, addressing the meeting of NATO member and non-member states leaders’ meeting on Afghanistan “Resolute Support” mission.
“Armenia has always supported the peaceful settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Vienna meeting with the participation of high representatives of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries issued a joint statement on May 16 reaffirming that the conflict cannot have a military solution, and underlined the importance of respecting the 1994 ceasefire and the 1995 agreements on the ceasefire indefinitely. This approach was reinforced in St. Petersburg, during the trilateral meeting of Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian Presidents”, said Armenian leader.
“As for the accusations of the Azerbaijani President voiced here, I do not consider it appropriate to make this meeting, as well as NATO's declarations an artificial platform for discussion of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. There is a specialized platform for it.
I just consider it to be my duty to stress that the main obstacle for the peace process is Azerbaijani top leadership’s policy and the lack of political will to resolve the issue peacefully.
The proof is large-scale aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan in April, which hindered the efforts of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group on peaceful settlement. The status quo will change if the right of Nagorno Karabakh people to self-determination is recognized”, said Serzh Sargsyan.
