Debut: European Championship in 2013. He won silver medal for snatch, and took the 4th place in clean and jerk, losing just in individual weight to the winner of the 2nd and 3rd places.
Start of career: He went to weightlifting classes when he was 12. He did kick-boxing before that, but his coach left Armenia and he stopped training.
Choice of sports: “My brother did weightlifting, I asked him to take me with him. That’s how I started, and I loved weightlifting.”
The most important achievement: gold medal and 5 records at the Junior World Championship in September 2012
Idol: Armenian weightlifters Tigran Martirosyan, Gevorg Davtyan, Yuri Vardanyan, Yuri Sargsyan
People with most influence on career: His personal coach, who is always by his side.
Pre-performance routine: He tries to not give in to competitive mood and keep calm.
Slogan: “The junior team’s coach Mr. Melik taught us to say before each attempt, “Do it, Buyan”. I remember that expression now as well.”
