Russian airbase in Armenia receives fighters
“The 4+ generation fighters and Mi-8MT helicopter will be assembled by the unit’s technical staff and put into service at the earliest date. Pilots will begin test flights of MiG-29 fighters in the mid-March,” says the press release from the Russian base.
13 attack and transport helicopters were transferred to Erebuni Russian air base stationed in Armenia in the end of 2015.
The Russian air base was established at Erebuni airdrome in Yerevan in 1995. MiG-29 multi-target fighters were re-stationed from Russia to the base in November 1998.
In July 2001, an air base was set up of the Erebuni units which became the air component of the 102nd Russian military base stationed in Gyumri.
