“As a result of operative-search activities reasonable suspicions arose that citizen of Azerbaijan Aydin Zakiyev, born in 1970, carried out espionage and assisted the Armenian special services in conducting hostile activities against our country,” TASS quoted the Azerbaijani SSS statement.
According to the investigation, Zakiyev was receiving assignments from the Armenian special services through mediators located in the territory of a third country and carried them out. In addition, he was “instructed to involve other people in his activities.”
“In particular, he was conveying information on the recruitment of the personnel of the armed forces of Azerbaijan, assisted the Armenian special services in the targeted dissemination of misinformation aimed at inciting confrontation in the republic on ethnic grounds,” the statement said.
