Nevertheless, many participants of active discussions have already forgotten or do not even know about the developments, which unfolded in Armenia 5, 10 or 15 years ago.

“Kosovo self-determination should not create obstacles”

On September 25 Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian stated that Yerevan will not look at the outcome of Kosovo as a precedent, but “on the other hand, a Kosovo decision cannot and should not result in the creation of obstacles to self-determination for others in order to pre-empt the accusation of precedence”.

“The actions, directed to prevent from achieving well-earned self-determination - are unacceptable,” Vartan Oskanian stated at the Session of the UN General Assembly.

Armenia “has agreed to each of the basic principles”

On September 25 Vartan Oskanian stated that “we have agreed to each of the basic principles in the document on settlement of the Karabakh conflict that’s on the table today”.

Speaking at the Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the minister said, “Having rejected the other two compromise solutions that have been proposed over the last 8 years, Azerbaijan does not want to be accused of rejecting the peace plan on the table today. Therefore, they are using every means available - from state violence to international maneuvers - to try to bring the Armenians to do the rejecting”.

“The expression “alien country” doesn’t reflect the reality”

On September 22 Armenian First Deputy Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan said that Russia renders “indisputable assistance” in the provision of Armenia’s security and independence.

Davit Tonoyan said this commenting on the displeasure of some circles who said that the military of the Russian base located in Armenia took part in the military parade dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence on September 21.

“The military of our strategic partner - the Russian Federation - took part in the parade dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence along with the Armenian military. This is the country which renders indisputable assistance in the provision of security and independence of our state, and the current level of military and military-technical cooperation is the bright evidence of this. So, the expression “alien country” regarding Russia doesn’t reflect the reality and sounds strange for all those who have been the witnesses of the successful implementation of joint Armenian-Russian programs for many years. It should be also noted that the participation of other countries’ units in parades is an accepted international practice. For example, several months ago the Honor Guard Company of Armenian Armed Forces took part in the parade dedicated to the national holiday of Italy,” Davit Tonoyan said.

“We never hesitated about integration with the EU”

On September 23 Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan stated that “we have never hesitated about the deep political and economic integration with the European Union”.

Speaking at the extended session of the Bureau of the European People’s Party in Bucharest, the Prime Minister noted that the European Union plays a serious role in maintaining peace and stability in the Southern Caucasus.

“Any venture will accelerate recognition of the NKR”

Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan stated on September 23 that “any venture by Azerbaijan will accelerate the recognition of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic on our part.”

“Everyone must clearly understand that the circumstance that for a period of years Armenia has not recognized the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic is due to the fact that Armenia was trying to achieve result through negotiations. At the same time, it is necessary to understand, that any venture by Azerbaijan, any action, taken outside the OSCE Minsk Group will accelerate the recognition of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic on our part,” the president stressed, speaking at the festive reception at the Armenian Embassy in the USA.

“Systematic changes began”

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan stated on September 21 that structural changes began in Armenia, “which will bring about a qualitatively new state”.

Speaking at “Generation of Independence” festive concert, the president said, “Today our country has entered a new, accelerated phase of reforms. These are not just personnel changes as some would like to think. These are systematic changes which will bring about a qualitatively new state. This is not just wishful thinking; this is a succession of the preset, defined steps. We know where we are going and how to get there,” Serzh Sargsyan said.

President of Armenia also noted that the independence generation in Armenia “has high standards and high demands.”

“They also have discontent, and that discontent is an important and necessary element of progress. They show discontent, they protest, criticize, and demand because they want to live in a better country. They do not let the representatives of the senior generation lose vigilance and thereby, they are speeding up the reforms,” Serzh Sargsyan stated.
