‘Habagat’ to prevail; death toll rises to 14

Chavez The death toll as a result of the effects of the “hanging habagat” or southwest monsoon increased to 14, with five injured and eight others still missing, national disaster officials said yesterday. Meanwhile, state weathermen said heavy rains will still be experienced today and tomorrow in Metro Manila, Central and Southern Luzon, and the Visayas. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Service Administration (PAGASA) said these are due to the effects of the southwest monsoon on the western section of Northern and Central Luzon. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the death toll rose to 14 with the inclusion of a still unidentified male fatality in Barangay Casaguen, Brooke’s Point, Palawan.
