Private elementary and high schools to increase tuition fees
The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday announced that 1,232 or 10.21% of the total 12,072 private elementary and secondary schools in the country will increase their tuition fee for the coming school year. In a statement released by DepEd Wednesday afternoon, it announced that the “schools who were approved for the tuition fee hike had undergone steps to ensure that the increase is reasonable and in accordance with DepEd guidelines which states that 70% of the increase must go to teachers’ salaries.” Logo collage photo courtesy of DepEd Bukidnon DepEd said the schools were also “asked to submit necessary documentation that proves consultation between the stake holders occurred.” DepEd said that of the over 24 million elementary and high school students in the country, only 12.2% are enrolled in private schools while the remaining 87.8% study in public schools.
