Mercy and generosity, in the season of Christ’s birth
Iloilo City—The Archdiocese of Jaro is urging Roman Catholics in Iloilo to show mercy during Christmas, the season welcoming the birth of Jesus Christ. In particular, Jaro Archdiocesan Social Action Center (JASAC) director Monsignor Meliton Oso is asking Catholics to share their blessings and reach out to those who need it the most. JASAC is currently involved in finding alternative means of livelihood for vendors who were displaced at the Tagbak Terminal in Jaro, Iloilo City, after a major bus company opened its own private bus terminal leaving Tagbak without any business. While livelihood opportunities are being negotiated, the JASAC is distributing food packs for about 100 families of displaced vendors for the holiday season. Oso also informed that the JASAC is reaching out to more than 200 old people in areas struck by super-typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in Iloilo province. “JASAC needs donations for canes, wheelchairs, and medicine,” he said.
