Etiquette for selfies
With all the flak hurled at people who love selfies, the words ‘etiquette’ and ‘selfie’ might be considered an oxymoron. Crystal L. Bailey, Director of The Etiquette Institute of Washington, gives us the reason why – “Ultimately, ‘selfie’ is short for self-centered or self-absorbed; etiquette, at its root, is about considering others first. It’s rare that these two are able co-exist.” Yet, etiquette is precisely what people who take selfies (read: everyone) have to learn. The practice is so pervasive, the act so ubiquitous, that it is absolutely necessary that we establish basic DOs and DON’Ts.
